Formatting USBs with live Linux... what's the right way?
I hope I am blind to something here... but every time I want to wipe a USB that had a linux distro on it (Mint, in this case) I have to hop into Windows and use DISKPART . Just now the stupid thing didn't say it was read only (by flags), but I had to clear that anyway before it would clean I am wiping this to create a macOS installer. I tried to clear it on MacOS, EndeavourOS (with partitionmanager), and Windows (Explorer before DISKPART) All this said, I love DISKPART and I will never speak ill of it. Its simple and effective and just works. Comments URL: https://tildes.net/~comp/1wud/formatt

I Need your Help to Improve Money Formatting on the Internet
I noticed the other day that a popular ruby library for all things money, Money , formats Serbian Dinar incorrectly. I spent several evenings to learn and describe what the correct formatting would be and how to achieve that. The answer requires croudsourcing, which you probably figured already. TL;DR: Unicode categorised it all; ECMA 402 contains lots of wisdom; if you make a money formatting library, make sure it uses CLDR; if you know about a less popular currency or language more than most, check if CLDR is correct. Update 10.01.2026: most of the PRs I mentioned are merged now, thanks ever
