Delta Chat: encrypted chat with boring technology
Hi, A couple of days ago I’ve heard about Delta Chat , and for once I got thrilled with some piece of technology again. At the surface it’s just a chat app to the likes of Telegram, Signal and WhatsApp. The exciting part, however, is that is uses plenty of open standards technology under the hood. It’s a chat app built on top the regular e-mail protocols, SMTP and IMAP, with a sprinkle of PGP to make it end-to-end encrypted. It has the same secure initial key exchange issue that PGP e-mail has, but at least now we have an interface that is straight up easy to use, specially f

Hiding Capabilities in AI Models
Interesting research: “ AI Models Can Provably Hide Arbitrary Capabilities ” Abstract: Capability evaluations aim to surface dangerous model behaviors before deployment, but their reliability depends on the assumption that hidden capabilities can be elicited. We show this assumption does not hold under adversarial conditions by constructing backdoor attacks that embed encrypted neural networks within host model weights, decrypting and executing them only upon receiving a secret trigger. Using digital lockers, these hidden circuits remain provably hard to elicit and interpret under cryptographi
