Dialogic containers and the danger of metaphors
I'm writing about dialogic containers these days. They are tricky to describe, and in the same way that Mike asserts a sophisticated understanding of systems, it's important to find helpful metaphor for a dialogic container. As facilitators we are used to using the world "container" to describe something that we can sense, feel or even physically see. The term does not convey the nature of an actual thing, but if you ask people what they mean by container you find yourself in a metaphorical world. And also, it feels like a finger pointing at the moon. Dialogic containers are important to dialo

Solving for uncertainty
A really good post from Chris Mowles that talks about how we seek to outsource our discomfort with uncertainty to an algorithm or a method or a process. Why is it so scary that unexpected things might happen when we get together to try and achieve something, unless we have things all planned out? Where is the room for the spontaneous, the novel and the eccentric? Two contrasting recent events have made me think about the technologies that we apply to meeting together, that aspire to create what my late colleague Doug Griffin used to refer to as the ...

Using Pi-hole Dns in Neighboring Docker Containers
In a previous post , I explained how to run Pi-hole in Docker and use it to manage the Domain Name System (DNS) for an entire home network — for example at home, work, or school. It’s a great tool for taking control over your DNS and blocking trackers and ads across the whole network. Once the network’s DHCP 1 server is configured, every machine on the network will begin sending its DNS queries to the Pi-hole container. But what about Docker containers that share the same Pi-hole host — what I’m calling “neighboring Docker containers”? Can they also use the Pi-hol

Simplifying Containers with Cloudflare Sandboxes
How I replaced a long-lived Cloudflare Container with a one-shot Cloudflare Sandbox, deleted most of the control-plane code, and let an agent do the heavy lifting in less than an hour of my own time.

Single-tenant Titus: VM-level isolation on a multi-tenant container platform
Samartha Chandrashekar & Nick Parker You click play on a Friday night, and in the second that follows, dozens of services answer in milliseconds. Most of them run on Titus, our internal container platform. Titus is, in essence, a Kubernetes-based container hosting platform: we keep both the control plane and the data plane (the container hosts that actually run containers) patched and up to date, so application teams get a consistent and reliable container experience. They hand us a container, and we run it, with no host, cluster, or kernel to own. Titus launches millions of containers every w
