TanStack's smaller React for the browser
#495 — October 30, 2026 Read on the Web React Status Putting MUI, Mantine, Ant Design and React Spectrum Under Load Den Odell wanted to see how popular design systems cope when you give them real work, so he timed ten of them , including MUI, Mantine, Ant Design and React Spectrum, and profiled the slowest cases. "Performance belongs on the design system team's priority list, next to accessibility," he says. Some highlights: 📊 With the CPU slowed 4x, opening a 249-country dropdown took 84ms in Mantine and 134ms in Ant Design, but over 200ms in MUI and React Spectrum, both of which froze the

Tor Browser 16.0 released
Version 16.0 of the Tor Browser has been released. This is the first stable version based on Firefox ESR 153. Notable changes in this release include support for Linux on 64-bit Arm, redesigned settings, and a "generic window titles" feature to help prevent other applications from snooping on one's browser activity. Tor Browser for Android has had a number of interface updates to Google's Material Design 3 design language. This release also follows Firefox in ending support for 32-bit x86 Linux systems. See the full changelog for all of the updates and bug fixes.

Testing Vue components in the browser
Hello! One of my long term projects on here is figuring out how to write frontend Javascript without using Node or any other server JS runtime. One issue I run into a lot in my frontend JS projects is that I don’t know how to write tests for them. I’ve tried to use Playwright in the past, but it felt slow and unwieldy to be starting these new browser processes all the time, and it involved some Node code to orchestrate the tests. The result is that I just don’t test my frontend code which doesn’t feel great. Usually I don’t update my projects much either so it doe

WorkOS: Let Agents Sign Up for Your App Without a Browser
My thanks to WorkOS for sponsoring last week at DF. An agent can’t click through a signup page built for humans, so give it something it can read instead. Publish an auth.md file and agents register themselves without ever touching a browser login, and the user never gets pulled out of what they were doing. With WorkOS auth.md, enroll in the dashboard and AuthKit publishes the file. Agents read it, register, and get scoped, short-lived credentials you control. Make your app agent-ready today . ★

The New York Times Sues Brave Web Browser For AI Scraping, Bypassing Paywalls
The New York Times and several other publishers have sued (PDF) Brave Software, accusing the browser maker of scraping their websites without permission and helping users bypass paywalls. The Verge reports: According to a complaint (PDF) filed by the companies that run New York Daily News, the Chicago Tribune, and the Orlando Sentinel, Brave Software has monetized its index of scraped websites by, in part, providing AI companies with paid access to "real-time online content from the Brave Index." The AI companies then use that index to train their models, access content to "respond to specific
