The Red Tower of Death in Karlovy Vary, Czechia

Fonte: Atlas Obscura ·

The Red Tower of Death (Rudá věž smrti in Czech) acquired its name both from its exposed red-brick architecture and, more symbolically, as a reference to the communist regime and the blood of the political prisoners who perished there. The tower served as a central dry-sorting and crushing plant for uranium ore. It was surrounded by forced labour camp "L" (Vykmanov II), widely considered one of the most dangerous camps in the Jáchymov system. The primary driver of mortality was not merely external radiation exposure, but the inhalation of concentrated radioactive uranium dust and radon gas wit
