For Keith Kahn-Harris, that's the question that Boris & Sunn O)))'s Altar seems to ask By any objective standard, the riff that dominates 'Etna', the opener to the Boris / Sunn O))) collaboration Altar, should be as celebrated as 'Walk', 'Whole Lotta Love' or 'Symptom Of The Universe'. As a song, there is little else to it but the riff – an extended intro that builds and locks into an audaciously simple chord sequence, eventually giving way to a lavishly elongated breakdown into a squall of guitar noise.
