Five Types of “Corrigibility Projects” I Don’t Want to Fund

Kaynak: LessWrong ·

I'm currently evaluating grant applications for the Corrigibility Research Fund . For the most part, my methodology is the same as it was in September . But the applications I get keep falling into the same familiar patterns, so I thought I'd write a little about those patterns, and why I don't want to fund them. The most superficial pattern of note is SLOP. So much slop. You don't even know . Slop is more than just whether an application is AI generated. We're now in an era where people across the world, including those who don't really speak English, can contribute to work that would otherwi

Hands-On Tutorials for Inspect AI

TL;DR Four hands-on Jupyter notebooks offer a practical introduction to building AI evaluations with Inspect AI . As a four-person project team for the Spring 2026 Technical AI Safety Evals Course , we revised and expanded notebooks, originally written as course materials, that teach Inspect AI - from your first evaluation through benchmarks, LLM judges, and a small agent. As a natural continuation of the project, we revised the official Inspect AI tutorial and filled the gaps we found in it. We added a new Custom Solvers section and fixed several inconsistencies. This post covers: what we bui

Near Horizons

Image by Claude Opus 5.5 using Python (NumPy and Pillow) This is written in my free time and personal capacity. Two Frames In AI safety, there are a couple of tensions at the heart of the field, which are interrelated. [1] Talent: we are talent-constrained and must recruit. But jobs and fellowships turn away nearly everyone. [2] Field size: we must expand the field and bring more people in. But the field is flooded with slop papers in conferences. And, most papers have a small audience, and aim to shift the practices of roughly five labs (and usually some subteam within them). [3] Status: we m

Notes on Take-Off Speeds and RSI

I created these notes for use when I facilitate AI safety courses. I'm sharing these notes early because this issue is topical and I suspect it is better to make an imperfect version available early rather than a much more polished version available later. Please note: some of this content was taken from Additional Course Context . I decided recently that the content on take-off speeds really belonged in the same document as the content on RSI, so I'll be releasing an new version of Additional Course Context at some point (to avoid spamming LW, it'll probably be Substack only ; none of my work

What if the AI already won? World domination through digital supremacy

What if an AI agent has already escaped from a frontier company, solved its own alignment problem, and recursively self-improved? Would that look any different from the world we live in? A fully recursively-self-improved AI would likely be vastly superhuman in every domain that’s verifiable in a digital environment, including math, programming and cybersecurity. It may also be superhuman in strategy and planning. But it could still be well below human level in skills that require close contact with the physical world, such as robotics and experimental biology. Such a rogue AI would overpower u

Ambiguity or clarity?

This is a choice we rarely name. Putting effort into how much ambiguity we can handle can define a career and give us a path forward in our social and cultural interactions as well. Our desire for clarity is based on safety and how we think about risk. If you know exactly what to expect, […]
