Show HN: Firenook – Firebase emulators in Rust: 40× faster writes, 10× less RAM

Source: Show HN Best ·

Hi HN, we have been developing with Firebase for a long time, and the only way Firebase developers can build apps without directly costing them is using the official Firebase Emulator Suite. However, the issue with this suite is, it's dependent and running on Java with a old Console UI (not updated in years), that was not built to support tons and millions of data and has pretty bad developer experience. For a long time, we were hitting Out of Memory on even high specs laptop while developing and the worst part is while this happens all the persists data keep getting lost. We were honestly fru

Show HN: Hackercasts – Podcasts Mentioned on HN

Saw Karpathy's HackerTube, and roansh's HackerBooks and I've been listening to podcasts while driving which has been quite fun. HackerCast has 1,157 podcasts you can play, recommended 12,361 times on Hacker News by 7,351 different HN users. Made with claude Opus 5.5 (medium), Claude wrote all of it and deployed on Cloudflare. I just bought the domain. Purely static site. Let me know if anyone there are any suggestions/comments. Let me know if there are any other sources from where I can source different kind of good quality podcasts. Comments URL: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50390066

lz4/lz4

Extremely Fast Compression algorithm http://www.lz4.org LZ4 - Extremely fast compression LZ4 is a lossless compression algorithm, providing compression speed > 500 MB/s per core, scalable with multi-core CPUs. It features an extremely fast decoder, with speed in multiple GB/s per core, typically reaching RAM speed limits on multi-core systems. Compression speed can be tuned dynamically, by selecting an "acceleration" factor which trades compression ratio for faster speed. On the other end, a high compression derivative, LZ4_HC, is also provided, trading CPU time for improved compression ratio.
