Microblogging on the fediverse
So today I read this post by icyphox titled Stop joining mastodon.social ( archived ) and I thought I’d put my thoughts in writing. And out came the following pointless mess. TL;DR: The fediverse doesn’t seem to work for me. I’ll take a step back first, and that sets me on twitter. So I don’t really do twitter. As in, I almost never tweet. I have followers but no mutual follows. I don’t feel like I know anybody I follow; or rather, nobody I follow knows me. I never get direct messages. I just open the website, and scroll through the Latest Tweets of people I follo

Nix on ubuntu and webGL
So I switched jobs and got a laptop from the company, and it had ubuntu installed with FDE. Normally I would have done a clean install of arch on it, but I said hey, let’s just give ubuntu a chance. When it came to setting up the elm language server though, you need a specific version of node and the fight with npm got tiring enough that I decided to go the Nix On Non Nixos route. So I installed nix on ubuntu, ran nix-env -iA a bunch of times, and everything was good in the world. Making stupid bridged networking work on wifi (because usermode networking is not good enough)
This is how I setup the network when I run a VM on a laptop. Building dosemu2 to run WordPerfect for DOS on debian
We are going to run wordperfect for dos on dosemu on debian. Overcomplicated adventure building stuff as debs for no reason. Main source of inspiration is http://www.columbia.edu/~em36/wpdos/ and the linux page there . Apparently there is a new way with dosbox-x which is better, but I don’t seriously intend to use WP, I’m just toying, so I won’t ask. I wrote down what I did as I went, but reordered sections to be in logical order instead of chronological. Let’s go with dosemu2 . I’m running bedrock linux on this laptop, with debian and void. Annoyance on low battery
Laptops should be a bit annoying when they are low on battery. Otherwise, I will not realise it until it’s too late, and my computer will turn off in the middle of whatever I was doing. Proper linux Desktop Environments already do this, but since I am running the Awesome window manager with a custom config, I only get what I add myself. My solution is as follows. Setting up guix, and locales
I wanted to try out Spritely Goblins to see what it is like, or to really understand what it is, since I’d been seeing it pop up on lobste.rs here and there. The guide suggests using the guix package, so I decided to install the guix package manager on top of my arch linux system. Installing asks to please run nscd, which is not even included in arch nowadays, so I did not, we’ll see what problems it causes. It is that time of the year again, Advent of Code time. I love the puzzles by themselves, especially as they become trickier and trickier, but I also take the opportunity to explore programming languages I don’t usually use that much. 错位的睡意及其他
一 神经衰弱发作之时，睡意就无可奈何地错了位。不是难入睡就是早早醒，白天需要精力时却难挡困倦乏力。 工作日还稍微好些，周末尤其如此：四五点就醒，下午1,2点疲惫难耐，到了晚上6,7点坐在沙发上看着电视就能睡过去，挨到了11点又辗转难眠。 万一碰上换季，更是天天如此。 年轻时倒是硬要反抗睡意。一到周末和假期就熬到下半夜，看电视玩游戏折腾电脑。反正第二天也没要紧事情，白天就睡大觉吧。 二 作为普通人，钱与闲适也是这么回事，错着位。有大把空的时光，没有钱去去享受闲适。慢慢攒了工钱，闲适也一起慢慢被挤了出去。 作为普通人，钱和很多东西都能组成这么个你强我弱的对子。钱和精力、钱和健康、钱和家庭，都这么回事。因为这些对于普通人，都是有限的，再怎么挣扎，基本没有太大的变化。 三 但钱和爱情，不一样了。作为普通人，以前的爱情是爱情，钱是钱，彼此关联和约束不那么强烈。现在爱情都标了价格，可以买和卖，有保质期，不满意了就退货。 但你相信还有钱买不到的爱情吗，总归还是有的。 四 还有知识、技能、和经验不是这样的。 你没法在用劲儿学习时反而学不着，多少得点儿；也没法不想学却落了一身本领。 五 因为有时间这个终极约束，我们就只能往前走。一切都随着时间单向流动，每个人都一样，回不了头。浪子回头只是心境。其实也不是，是一个新的幻想。 所以，不管伟大或者渺小、贫穷或者富有、高尚或者卑鄙，都在匆匆随波往前，不同的只
