Yudkowsky's mind model for AI alignment research: experiment results
TLDR. Yudkowsky mind-model (sideload) is good, can produce research, but is not better in math than Opus 5.5. However, in my impression, EY-sideload has broader view, knows what is really important to AI safety and has human anchoring. In blind review, EY-sideload won only on honesty, but honesty is important. EY-sideload also produced a good summary of the shutdown problem’s difficulty: “training reduces paid influence over shutdown least where the stakes are highest”. You can find full description of results in Substack article which is AI written. Here is short human-made summary. I put on

It will take place on Tuesday, November 17th, at 4:30 PM, follow

Potential improvements to HowTruthful and its agent skills
I followed my own instructions for exploring Massachusetts 2026 ballot question arguments. I figured out how I want to vote. I also figured out some improvements to make to HowTruthful and its associated agent skills . Since users are rating statements' truthfulness on a 1-5 scale, it's not very useful to have a hedged statement like "Massachusetts legislators who run unopposed can take voters for granted and ignore important issues." If the rest of the statement is even a possibility, the word "can" makes the statement as a whole true. The AI skill should change such statements into a definit

Thoughts on Owning a Self-Driving Tesla
My Subaru was showing its years so I recently bought a Tesla. My thinking was I can buy a car or I can buy a car+driver for the same price. Simple choice. I’ve driven about 2000 miles including one long trip (6 hours) to North Carolina and back. FSD is incredible. I don’t mind driving […] The post Thoughts on Owning a Self-Driving Tesla appeared first on Marginal REVOLUTION .

The emotions of voting
Futility: It might feel like it doesn’t matter.Fear: Of choosing wrong, or doing it wrong.Responsibility: It isn’t given, it’s taken. Which is why so many leave it on the table.Possibility: Showing up to have your say could change things for the better.Identity: This is what people like us do, it’s part of being in this […]
